Social Skills Group

With Betsy Atkins, LCSW, RPT-S®

Ms. Betsy's social skills groups exemplify the transformative power of integrating therapy and play. By focusing on cooperation, turn-taking, problem-solving, and communication within a small group setting, these sessions provide elementary-aged participants with the tools they need to thrive socially. The personalized attention, engaging activities, and intimate atmosphere create a unique learning experience that empowers children to build their confidence, regulate their emotions, and foster genuine peer connections. The confidence gained in the group setting often carries over to other areas of their lives, such as school and family interactions. Ultimately, these groups serve as a stepping stone for children to navigate the complexities of social interactions with grace and kindness.

Social Skills Group (5th - 7th grade)

With Stefanie Goggins, LPC-S

Children participating in Ms. Stefanie’s Social Skills Group will learn how to better understand and manage their big feelings while being around friends who have similar struggles. This group will work towards creating acceptance and building confidence while learning about perspective-taking and how to see their environment from multiple lenses. Group process will focus on understanding self and others and conflict resolution, how to set boundaries, and use an assertive voice to advocate for our needs. Participants will work to better understand “unfairness,” which can cause frustration and feelings of injustice. They will work on frustration tolerance skills and how to manage inner mad dragons better. The group’s over goal is to improve self-acceptance, so that we can be more flexible and accepting of others, develop self-confidence and feel increased mastery over our own emotional strength. • Personalized & Trauma-Informed

“Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our lives. It shapes the way we live, the way we love and the way we make sense of the world. It is the root of our deepest wounds.” - Gabor Maté

Trauma-Informed counseling is a therapeutic approach and mindset which focuses on “what happened to you”, rather than “what is wrong with you”. What happens inside of you during a traumatic event (especially those which occur in childhood) can shape your experiences and have a long lasting effect on your life and relationships. Through trauma-informed counseling, our clinicians collaborate with you in a meaningful and compassionate way that supports reconnection with your authentic self.
